Hi!
This web page is the home of Plat, if you are interested please
spend a minute reading these lines.
Plat was born three years ago when i was at the beginning of
the University and i had to prepare for an exam on C language. At the
beginning plat was developed in 100% C in DOS real mode using Borland
Turbo C 3.0 compiler. It was in 320x200 at 256 palettized colors with no
sound and really jerk support, soon it moved to DJGPP (www.delorie.com) which
is one of the best compilers for DOS, running in protected mode, a kind of
porting linux's gcc to DOS environment.
Thanks to the power of i386 protected-mode it had been possible to
make use of new VESA 2.0 extensions (really few video cards supported VESA 2.0
at those times) so the resolution changed to 640x480 and colors increased to
65k mainly to get rid of those ugly palettes. This old dos version also make
heavy use of Allegro library (sorry cant find links) for audio support and
game temporization. Two years ago i give up and decided to put plat in a draw
due to no free time to spend on.
Note: there exists also an old Windows version based on DirectX 5.
In may 2001 i decided to try to port the game under linux: i had
been really successfull so i decided to start the plat project again, thanks
to sourceforge now there is a team working on this game (thanks folks!) and it
will be a great game.
What else?
please came often looking for new releases (next one will be
around middle of june with big engine improvements). If you are interested in
the old DOS and Windows version of the game you have to email to me, see below.
If you are interested, plat needs someone who wants to develop
levels monsters, powerups and music.
